I remember walking past this pub every day during the 1980’s, when I was doing my apprenticeship on Sheffield Rd.   In those days it looked more like a traditional English pub, that you would find in the countryside.  It has now been turned into some type of Islamic building,  Tinsley has changed so much from the East End of the 1980’s and has become an Islamic community.

A number of years ago the pub featured in the film, “Among giants” with the late Pete Postlethwaite.  This was about a group of workers who painted the Electric pylons but also climbed in the Peak district.   The film is well worth a watch and you will see the old Tinsley cooling towers, which have since been demolished.

“Among the giants” was written before the “Fully monty” by ,Simon Beaufoy  but it wasn’t until the success of the Full monty, that the film was made.
