M1 Photograph

I happened to be in the middle of the countryside when I took this picture today at a village called Brampton.   I walked under the M18 and then over the top of the M1 motorway.   I remember them building the M1 motorway back in the late 1960’s and can still see the picture of the earth movers at junction 31 of the M1 in my mind.   Wouldn’t I love to go back in time to a time when these motorways didn’t cut through the heart of the countryside and hear the peace and quiet of those times.  I have also thrown in a black and white copy of the photograph, so easy to do with modern cameras and PC software.

I used to find motorway driving pleasant, when my dad first drove on them in the 1970’s, there was hardly a car on them.  This was Sunday afternoon, look at the horrible gantries and concrete rd separators, we now have to endure.
