Scrooby Mill photograph

I paid a visit to Scrooby today.  Scrooby was the village the Pilgrim fathers originated from.  The Pilgrim fathers were some of the first people to settle in the United states of America.  They were persecuted, religious people.  The Pilgrim fathers went across on the Mayflower from Plymouth.

Pilgrim fathers and the Mayflower

My Grandad tells me some of our family went across to America on the Mayflower.  He tells me he received a manuscript from America during the war, providing links back to our family.  People were very short of money in the 2nd world war and he threw the document in the bin.  He didn’t want to feel indebted to the American who sent it to him. This is a taste of one of the pictures I took today of the Monks Mill.  This Mill is now a family home, but was used up to the 2nd world war.  It was fed by the River Ryton which runs close by and used a Water wheel to power it.
