Bawtry is a great little town to visit to have a look around the niche shops or have a meal in one of the exclusive restaurants.  In the 12th century, Bawtry was an inland port, many of the old buildings point to the wealth made there in the past.  However, if you go down to the river Idle, you may wonder how large the boats were using it.  It looks like the river Idle has become very silted up over the years.

Further wealth came to Bawtry, through Mail coaches using the Great North rd (A1) that once ran through Bawtry and the later arrival of railways.  Bawtry is going through a further resurgence with many wealthy people moving into the area.
