St Ledger originates from Firbeck.

Firbeck is only a 30 minute or so walk across the fields for me from Dinnington.  I took a picture of the village sign and noticed horse racing on it.  Digging a bit further I found out that the St Ledger race was first run at Firbeck but wasn’t called that then.   The race was named after Anthony St Ledger who owned Parkhill house at Firbeck a country estate of 500 acres.  Parkhill house no longer exists, other than the gatehouse, which you will find by the telephone box.

I am told that.  Every sporting man and Turfite has heard of the Park Hill Stakes.
